The Village DNA master plan process is part of a broader initiative by the Province of West Flanders to develop a tailor-made methodology for villages between 2021 and 2024. Participation and co-creation with local partners are central to this process.

The approach balances a data-driven perspective that informs policy, collaboration with a wide range of local and supra-local actors, and the spatial-intuitive lens of the design team. This means the village DNA is explored from both planning logic, ongoing (quiet and strong) evolutions and systems, as well as from the perspective of space and its users.
